TruStage™ to release emergency funds to help local food pantries

Need spikes for food pantries following government shutdown and delayed SNAP benefits

MADISON, Wis. — Earlier this month, in an unprecedented move, six of Dane County's largest food pantries shared they were beginning to see the impacts of the government shutdown and the delay of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. In 2024, SNAP, known as Food Share in Wisconsin, provided benefits to nearly 65,000 people in Dane County. Local pantries are encouraging community members and organizations to contribute nonperishable food items and cash to help them fill this short-term need.

Today, TruStage, a financial services provider and insurance company, headquartered on Madison's westside, is announcing it will release $80,000 in emergency funds to aide our community partners as they work to make sure no one in the Dane County area goes hungry.

"We're seeing more families than ever turning to us for help as budgets tighten. Too many Dane County residents are working long hours but still come up short at the end of the month," says Business Director for the Badger Prairie Needs Network, Marcia Kasieta. "With food prices rising, it's also more expensive for pantries to keep shelves stocked. TruStage's support will help us maintain reliable access to healthy food for our neighbors during this challenging time."

"TruStage was founded upon the principle of people helping people and it remains at the heart of who we are," says President and CEO, Terrance Williams. "When families in our own community are struggling to put food on the table, we step up. We're proud to support local nonprofit partners and encourage others who can join us in this effort to ensure everyone has enough to eat."

Badger Prairie Needs Network, Goodman Community Center, The River Food Pantry, St. Vincent de Paul – Madison, Sunshine Place and Way Forward Resources, six of the largest food banks/pantries in Dane County, along with Second Harvest of Southern Wisconsin, will receive a total of $60,000. The remaining $20,000 will go to three foodbanks/pantries in and around Waverly, Iowa. Dane County and Waverly are the geographic areas with the largest concentration of TruStage employees across the country.
